Principal Investigators

Claudio Parra was born in Arica, Chile. He received his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Tarapacá and subsequently earned an M.Sc. in Experimental and Industrial Organic Chemistry from the University of Barcelona (Spain). He then joined the research group of Prof. Josep Bonjoch at the University of Barcelona, where he completed his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. His doctoral research focused on the development of general asymmetric methods for the synthesis of key building blocks present in structurally complex polycyclic natural products. Following his doctoral studies, he carried out postdoctoral research with Dr. Ben Bradshaw at the University of Barcelona, where he expanded his expertise in synthetic methodology and complex molecule synthesis. He later founded and directed the Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products Laboratory at the University of Tarapacá. He currently leads the Synthetic Methodology research line at CLab, University of Concepción.

Max Martínez was born in Santiago, Chile. He received his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Chile. He then joined the research group of Prof. Ramiro Araya at the University of Chile, where he completed his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis of quinone and hydroquinone derivatives with antitumor activity. Following his doctoral studies, he carried out postdoctoral research with Dr. Leonardo Santos at the University of Talca, where he investigated curcumin derivatives with anticancer activity. He later joined the Metropolitan Technological University (UTEM) as a researcher, followed by appointments at Bernardo O'Higgins University and the University of Concepción. He currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemical Sciences, University of Concepción, where he leads the Computational Chemistry research line at CLab, University of Concepción.
